@TakoAlice8 I’ve been doing some thinking about this, because I genuinely didn’t feel like my interest with Shrinking Women (or some of the other related kinks) had any connection to my body. I’d always assumed this was springing up from my overactive imagination. This was always a “creative” outlet for me and I saw my interest in it as sort of the adult version of when kids play cowboys and indians. Now the unnecessary autobiography. But I did realize something that might be more like what some folks have talked about. I have always been a big guy. I’m just over 6’ and lift weights, I played a bunch of sports in high school (I was/am built like a lineman not a quarterback). And I have a rather big personality. I guess you could think of my natural disposition as John Rhys-Davies or Brian Blessed, or if you watch anime “that American guy” who is usually a mechanic. I was in theatre and loved the stage, I sing well and play a couple of instruments. But from early on I was constantly being told to be quiet or various other versions of “don’t stand out and don’t take up space”. The church I grew up in was full of people who were salt of the earth small town people, and the culture there was positive but sober. They didn’t like noise or noisy people (we sang acapella with no mics etc). My father (also a big man) constantly cautioned me that my size, my voice, my manner would put people off. He was in sales and had constantly had to temper his own size and personality to be a good salesman. So what did I do? I cranked hard down. After a few years I found that I had formed a habit of constantly dialing down, pulling back, trying to take up less space. Despite my strength I’m constantly frustrated that I hold things too delicately. I touch everything like I’m going to break it. Can you see where this is going? Girls like manliness, of course. But I’ve been programmed for decades that girls are fragile and breakable. So… Oddly enough now that I look at it, I can see the symmetry. If I could shrink a woman, she could enjoy all the intensity she wanted she could be satisfied by the overwhelming experience of masculine energy and I want that for any woman I am intimate with. She can have that even while I’m holding back, holding her like she might shatter. I don’t have to worry about hurting her or scaring her in a bad way, she wants my “bigness”. Anyway, I don’t think that’s why I have the kink, but it certainly is why the kink and others related to it continue to flourish in my imagination year after year.

This isn’t related to roleplaying or size stuff specifically, but I would disagree with the idea that cheating is the point when you romantically desire someone else more than your partner. The thing about desire is that it’s not really something we can consciously control. I think it’s very unrealistic to expect that you will never see or encounter anyone who seems more desirable to you than your partner in some way, especially considering that there are eight billion people on this planet. What are the odds that the person you chose to build a relationship with is going to always and indefinitely be the most desirable person in the world to you? Very, very low. Plus people change, and relationships change over time, so you can’t expect desire to remain absolutely constant. That’s why long-term relationships are based on commitment and not on desire alone. That’s why it used to be so hard to get a divorce: it was meant to deter married people from abandoning their commitments just because they were having a bad day or a bad year, or because they saw a hot person in a bar and became infatuated. I think there’s a world of difference between desire and action. I might hate my boss, and I might desperately want to wring his neck, but does that make me a murderer or a violent person? No. I’m not guilty of violence unless I act upon my desires, or unless I start making a plan to hurt my boss and I intend to follow through on that plan. When desire turns into action or serious intention, that’s when the line has been crossed. It’s the same way with cheating or with other “crimes.” Desire alone does not equal guilt. Desire is involuntary, but action is voluntary. Action is something you can control, but desire is generally outside of your control…that’s the key difference. Why am I harping on this? Partly because I don’t want anyone to beat themselves up for something they can’t control. I don’t want anyone to beat themselves up for having perfectly natural and understandable desires that every human has. But the other reason is that I don’t want to see anyone use desire as an excuse. If you believe that having certain desires automatically makes you guilty, then it’s easier to rationalize certain behaviors to yourself. You might think, “I’m already guilty of cheating, because I desire someone else more than my partner…therefore I might as well do what my desires tell me to do, since I’m guilty either way!”

@The-Big-G said: Onto the whole minority thing separate tangent but do any others who do art or write stories feel uncomfortable about adding minorities to the shrink fiction. This issue comes up frequently both in general fiction as well as in smut. In general fiction the main concern is avoiding stereotypes and unintentional racism (often due to ignorance of historical or social context). In smut there is the additional hazard of fetishization of race (even while we’re fetishizing size). Finally, not everyone agrees on racial categories and terminology, so it is perilous to assume your readers share your perspective. On the other hand, readers like descriptions, particularly when it comes to characters they’re going to be spending a lot of time with. In longer works, a character’s racial/ethnic background may factor in the theme or plot, which requires a complex awareness of multiple perspectives lest the readers spot the author’s ignorance or prejudice. In stroke fiction, of course, physical details are the meat (heh) of the action. A common mistake is to avoid using any racial/ethnic identifiers at all. The pitfall here is that you run the risk of all your characters being presumed to be white, straight, cis, able, skinny, neurotypical, etc. If you only give physical descriptions to POC or LGBTQ+ or disabled characters, you’re perpetuating the Marked/Unmarked problem. In my earlier work, I have tried to thread this needle by being scanty with physical descriptions but using “ethnically-pronounced” character names to smuggle in ethnic identities. I now regret this practice. Another concern that requires sensitivity is the issue of representation. Everyone deserves to see themselves in art and literature, and that includes size smut. If they can do it on Bridgerton, we can do it in Size Fantasy. Of course, in visual arts you can easily include all sorts of different-looking people without making it look like diversity for diversity’s sake. In text it’s a little more pronounced, especially if you’re only mentioning physical details for characters in Marked categories. Finally, one of the chief uses for written smut is letting the reader project themselves upon or at least strongly sympathize with one or more characters. Making the characters “too” specific might create an obstacle for readers who are distracted or disappointed by a certain detail. “I was really into this story until I read that the giant had a goatee. I hate those.” Fortunately, size pervs have a lot of practice with mentally editing smut so it accommodates their preferences. There’s no easy answer to this except to be attentive and careful and to read stories from a wide range of sources. If you want to write about a character with an unfamiliar background, try to find a test-reader who has that background to help you avoid glaring errors (if you don’t know anyone with that background, reconsider giving it to your character). Am I wrong to feel this way about desiring vanilla, chocolate and or caramel when it comes to my tiny ladies One easy tip: Avoid food metaphors for people or the color of their skin (even when you’re writing vore).

@ricenoodle I have favorite kinks or specific activities, and when I first discovered other size fantasists online that’s all I focused on. Size remains a primarily sexual area of imagination for me, but in recent years I have expanded my interests to mixed-size relationships, different takes on world-building, and “slice of life” scenarios. Exploring a wider variety of perspectives just makes it more real for me.

@littlest-lily American culture is also terrified of anything that actual portrays non-traditional procreative sex in a positive light. Going back to Twilight, as a non-reader of the books, it’s always been my understanding that they were written from a weirdly moralistic standpoint. As ‘kinky’ as vampires are, the relationship that Bella pursues with Edward is exemplary of monogamy and involves a very formal courtship process. The actual sex is problematized as the source of a dangerous pregnancy that Bella can’t terminate because the author is a Mormon. Or maybe I’m thinking of Buffy, which also treats sex with vampires as bad not because it’s with a vampire but because sex has innately transformative properties: one moment of happiness for a ‘reformed’ vampire makes them immediately turn evil again, and sex is how that happens. Most TV sucks at portraying this sort of thing well. The mark of a well-written show or series, IMO, is the subversion of these tropes. Twin Peaks is a great example, probably the best. True Detective does it well in a couple of seasons, too.

I think it’s like the idea that art imitates culture, and culture also imitates art. It’s a constant feedback loop. I don’t see it as an “either/or” kind of thing…I see it as “both/and.” Art shapes people’s taste AND their taste shapes art. It’s hard to separate the two or to tell where one begins and the other ends.

Seems like it’s gotten over itself given some light examples recently, but I’m not gonna push it farther than to make it describe an image about a fairy woman romantically.

@Olo For real she’s almost 6 feet tall, someone should really do something about that… But seriously I saw those movies WAY too young (thanks to my careless older brother!) and it terrified me, I had nightmares for weeks.
